I'm having problems printing to my 6500A.  It has worked fine for about 3 months.  No settings have been changed...just not working for some reason.  I've received 2 error messages...1) Printer is busy printing other jobs and 2) Printer is turned off or is not connected.

Dcwconstruction (Feb. 25, 2011)

I am having the same problems studiowo is having regarding my iphone and ipad as well as accessing Apps on the 8500.  Everything has worked fine for several months but this whole week I can't print from mobile devices nor access the Apps on the printer screen.  It says Connection Error everytime and gives me no explanation.  The settings have not been touched or changed from prior settings on any devices or networked computers/servers/firewalls/etc.

Can you use the e print function on the HP 8500 with the printer connected to the network using a ethernet cable?

hpws$19475808025 (Feb. 6, 2011)

I have had this printer for a couple of weeks.  I have it connected as an internet computer, as well as a USB connect to my main computer.  The first day, I copied 560 pages of a legal document.  Loaded about 40 pages at a time into the ADF and it ran GREAT!!.   It would have taken hours to this one page at a time, and cost an arm/leg to have it done at a copy house.  All were copied into my computer and then burned to disk in a PDF format.

Have printed double sided, which works much better on this machine than it has on others.

So far, it has been great!

As for set up issues, I had none.  I have connected remotely (email), have printed from my iPhone, have connected from other computers on my intranet. Love this printer, so far.

rshasky (Feb. 4, 2011)

Hi Sidney.  I really have to stress to everyone that hp Officejet Pro 8500A is laden with software problems.  The disk software just doesn't setup properly on a ethernet network connected computer, even when 100% of the firewall challanges are addressed exactly in accordance to the hp troubleshooting directions.  The only connectivity that works is through the EWS and the scan function only works with one page scans, not multiple pages.  The only way I could get it to print was to manually set up a network printer using the IP address from my router, so there is no software functionality.  On a positive note, the web apps on the printer work well and it was easy to set up the mobile printing function and test it using my Blackberry.  On one last downside note, the google doc scan app worked but the hp Scanner put multiple vertical lines on each of the pages.  I've historically had nothing but immense challanges with all of hp product software and printers and desktop computers.

EricAtHP (Jan. 13, 2011)

Ssb1594, the procedure for getting your printer code varies, but usually ends in printing out a new "Printer Info Sheet."  Generally you'd find that under "Settings," "Wireless," "Web Services" I believe.

Wynjohn, We just got our printer with the iMac as well. The rep at the store said the check would come in the mail within approx 30 days. She completed the rebate for us at the store during the purchase process. I would check your receipts and maybe ask at the store you bought it. Hope this helps:)

EricAtHP (Jan. 5, 2011)

Wynjohn, I can tell you that there is no capacity to redeem rebates or coupons on the ePrintCenter.  Perhaps the vendor would have more information?

Jammer (Dec. 31, 2010)

How I got Wifi to work for me ( may not work for you if the printer isnt close to your wireless router or you do not use a wireless router ) -

I used a cat5 ethernet cable ( purchased ) to plug the printer into the back of my router ( you have ports on the back of your router, verify this ).  This is the same router you have your cable modem plugged into -or- a hub with your networked computers.

The wifi indicator light on your HP Printer will turn off. That is good.  You are bypassing the wifi that the printer uses and instead using the wifi from your router. Again, if your printer isnt close to your router then this wont work. The cat5 ethernet cable has to reach and be plugged in to the back of the wireless router.  For those who dont know what a cat5 cable is, it is NOT the supplied phone cord that came with the computer.  Its different. Ask a store rep for help.

Now use your netbook or laptop to add the printer. It will still find the printer under your network since the printer is connected to your router.

I have 3 computers that are connected to my router and have no problem connecting to the Printer ( after installing HP Drivers on each computer ).  I have a netbook and laptop also connected to the HP Printer using wifi.  Also no problems. These use the wifi from my router to connect to the printer which is also connected to the router.

I dont have any problems with the wifi timing out from the Printer going into sleep mode.  May have something to do with being hard wired ( cat5 ethernet cable ) to the router.  No problems with the HP Printer aps either.  They need more than 17 apps however.  So if you didnt properly set up an account with hpeprint then your still not missing much. Pretty sad selection.

Hope this helps someone out there :)

I had issues with my 6500a disconnecting from the internet also. After several calls to HP with no satisfactory answers, I experimented by turning off the power save function and have not had a connectivity problem since.

Now, I need to address the issue of not being able to send to the printer from my main email account. I get a "rejected" message nearly immediately. I can send to the printer from a secondary yahoo account, so I am not totally dead in the water. I don't think HP guarantees receiving from every ISP.

Hi gac, I am a MAC user & connected the printer through an Airport Express. Intially its having problems connecting/ communicating with each other, until I gave up & called Apple Support. We found out that the cause was, I have selected "Connecting to another Network" instead of "Creating a New Connection" & the rest is history. The printer is perfectly working Wirelesly - Printing & Scaning. Never tried and set up Fax function as I don't have any land line phone service ( I only have DSL dry loop). I do hope this help.

LozerePC48 (Dec. 21, 2010)

I did have the same problem where the wifi could not be connected. Gave up after 24hrs. I went ahead and hooked up my printer via network cable and shared it using my network computer. Working just fine.

My HP8500A works great since I was able to connect to the HP site.  The instructions recommended 24 hrs. after setup for connection to HP site.  Actually the setup took longer.  Printer was installed over a week ago.  I sent my first eprint today, which is nearly 7 days later.  I am also trying to print wireless (wi-fi connection) from my laptop to eprint.  Please provide any suggestions you may have to assist me with the wifi printing from my laptop.

Tallis (Dec. 15, 2010)

wmodavis - my experience was as yours, at first. Sure, very easy to set up. Eprint was great for the first 24 hours but needs constantly resetting to make it work.

However, having said that I was amazed that it was online today - longest period since purchase. Has HP fixed something I wonder? I won't hold my breath.

Hi just got my new smart printer it is wonderful also it has a wireless and lots of Aps to print and photo projects.

Sometimes when you make a misstake on a setup all you have to do is reintall it. What I like about these new printers are that they have a lot to offer you. The small printers ink is cheaper, you get more printing for your money.

hpws$15250117025 (Dec. 14, 2010)

Just got my new 6500a Plus up and running. After reading all the negative comments I am wondering what I did wrong. Setup went slick and easy. Wireless was a snap. Still awaiting results of ePrint test. Printed a 4x6 photo from SD card in camera and was impressed. Copying a document = OK. Will contuinue testing all the options and features.

Ummm, we got a 1415 and it works perfectly. Better than expected actually

buckarootwo (Dec. 12, 2010)

I had a hard time getting everything set up.  It requires a very close reading of the literature to it, but it is there.  I did do an ethernet connection but I went back to the wireless to see why I was having trouble.  My thought here is that I was locked out of my own network by my own firewall and the variation in connections was in my neighbors DSL networks.  Not everyone in my neiborhood has chosen to protect thir system, some turn their systems off at times not convenient to me, some have a weaker signal reception after all it is radio reception and I was depending on the neighbors for a connection to the internet.  This explains in my mind why there was such a variation in talking to my printer.

mwh1951 (Dec. 11, 2010)

Totally agree with Tallis eprint DOSN'T work and Hp havent a clue how to sort the out the problem, why spend millions on advertising when eprint simply is a JOKE!!! (UK user)

hpws$10014331027 (Dec. 11, 2010)

Wow!  All these negative posts.  I've had my 6500A for a month, and all's well.  I just wish I had access to the cooler apps.

Tallis (Dec. 10, 2010)

Eric - that's not a good answer. ePrint doesn't work. That's the truth, isn't it. It's a broken product and there's no real fix at the moment to make it work. When I buy any other business product (with the exception of something from Microsoft) I don't expect to have to sit in forums and beg for help. Help doesn't come, why? Because there's nobody at HP who knows what to do. Is there? Mine's going back. Buy Canon.

mwh1951 (Dec. 10, 2010)

Totally agree with you noorr I've had nothing but problems with eprint Ive had differant people emailing my printer most of them come back as FAILED, very dissapointed with HP and most of the time the site is down,HP truely needs tto address this issue

EricAtHP (Dec. 10, 2010)

I'd recommend posting your questions on the ePrint and Print App forum.  They're best suited to answer all of your printer related questions!

noonrrr (Dec. 10, 2010)

E-print is a POS program from HP that is flawed beyond belief. According to the reps at HP the website has had huge connectivity issues and is down a good deal of the time. I agree...it's going back if they don't frix it soon.

wenmos33 (Dec. 10, 2010)

Same issue as MarvMool! Worked fine for about 24 hrs; now showing not connected on the website and not printing any sent jobs!!!  What give HP???  Fix this ASAP or this printer goes back to the store!! Should NOT have to keep reconnecting!!!

MarvMool (Dec. 9, 2010)

Purchased the B210 of 83 year-old mother-in-law.  Testing before I give to her.  Printer works for a while, but then shows disconnected on the website, even though it has a wireless connection.  Going through the wireless setup and re-connecting fixed it a few times, but now it still shows not connected, even though it is and the config sheet confirms it.  Can someone direct me to tech support?
